1. Verifying Location and Accessibility
The inspection starts before the technician ever touches the safety unit. They must verify that the equipment is perfectly placed to protect your staff:
Visibility Check: Can the extinguisher be clearly seen from across the room, or is it obscured by architectural columns or stock? Is the required high-visibility wall signage installed correctly above it?
Clear Pathways: Is the 1-metre safety zone completely clear of temporary obstructions, boxes, or office furniture?
2. The Physical Integrity Review
Next, the technician evaluates the physical structure of the cylinder or housing unit.
Corrosion and Dents: Even a small amount of deep rust or a minor dent can structurally compromise a highly pressurised steel cylinder, turning it into a safety hazard.
Hose and Nozzle Blocks: Technicians look inside the discharge hose and nozzle to ensure insects, dust, or debris haven’t blocked the pathway. A blocked hose can cause an extinguisher to fail completely or rupture under pressure when deployed.
3. Pressure Gauge and Seal Verification
The most critical indicators of readiness are the safety mechanisms.
The Green Zone: The pressure gauge must be verified to ensure the internal propellant gas hasn’t slow-leaked out over time.
Tamper Seals: The technician checks the plastic tamper seal and metal safety pin. If the seal is broken or missing, the unit must be taken offline, weighed, and fully checked to guarantee it hasn’t been partially discharged and left empty.
4. Weight and Chemical Settling
